Well UFC 85 has come and gone, I feel for anyone that actually paid money for it, and its time to check out my picks:

Alves v Hughes - Right on. Glad to see Alves win, although he didn't make weight and then asked for a title shot. He has the tools to be very good but needs to work on the weight a bit more.

Werdum v Vera - Not the way I saw it ending but still the same result. Vera used to be so highly regarded and now he's lost two consecutive fights, albeit to two tough opponents. The UFC needs to give him some chump to wreck then get him back to fighting the big dogs. Werdum needs a rematch with Nog now, make it happen Dana.

Marquardt v Leites - 'Herb Dean, best in the game' - Joe Rogan. What the fuck. Thanks for an exciting fight guys but we'll just take two points away from Marquardt, who won on all judges cards, and give Leites the win. Not to dog on Leites because he weathered the storm and still put up a great fight but the result was bullshit because of the point deductions.

Davis v Swick - Ouch. Swick, I'm glad you won because you needed this one. Davis, better luck next time. I'm pretty impartial here but both fighters have heart and it was an ok fight.

Bisping v Day - Who didn't see this one happening. When will Bisping actually fight someone who matters? The UFC doesn't want their UK poster boy getting worked over? Oh ok, we'll just put you up against Chumpzilla's #1-100 for the rest of your days here.

Got 4 out of 5 right, not bad at all. I still can't believe that this was a PPV event and not free on Spike. I hope they didn't make any money on this.

UFC 85 Bedlam

Well here it is, night before the next UFC. Time for some predictions:

Alves v Hughes - I really hope Alves can win this but I'm not too sure on that. Hughes might be able to his wrestling to lay and pray a decision out of this one. But I'm still picking Alves just because Hughes is a fag.

Werdum v Vera - If this fight gets to the ground it is over for Vera, he knows that and so does everyone else. If he can keep it standing he may be able to outscore Werdum and win a decision but I think that Werdum will find a way to get it to the floor and show off his excellent BJJ.

Marquardt v Leites - Nate might have been dismantled by Silva but he is still one of the best Middleweights in the UFC. I expect Nate to win by decision or TKO in Round 2 or 3.

Davis v Swick - I really like Mike Swick but I think this is a bad matchup for him. Davis has some heavy hands and if Swick takes a few it might be lights out for him. I would like to see Swick do well at Welterweight but I don't see him winning this one.

Bisping v Day - Come the fuck on UFC, let Bisping fight someone who matters. Who gives a shit if he is 10089809389077 -1 if he only fights nobodies. Having him as the posterchild for MMA in the UK makes me sick because he sucks and hasn't beaten anyone good at 185 or 205 (no I don't count his fight vs Hamill as a win). I really am hoping for Day to pull the upset here but I have a feeling Bisping will win this crapfest.

I'll post again after the fights to see how bad my predictions were.

Arlovski to sign with Affliction....and Trump too

What a crazy day.

Apparently Andrei Arlovski is going to sign with Affliction today and will fight Ben Rothwell on their debut card on July 19. This Affliction card is simply stacked. Headlined by Fedor v Tim Sylvia, it also includes Arlovski v Rothwell, Matt Lindland, Babalu, and others. Should be an excellent card.

Also Donald Trump is supposed to be in their press conference today and will have a stake in the promotion or something like that.

WEC on Versus

This was really a great show, if you missed it you need to see it so go download it now or see it somehow because this is how MMA should be, not that tripe that was on CBS. Outside of Razor Rob's poor showing, all of the fights were exciting, especially Torres v Maeda and Pulver v Faber. If only CBS could have shown this instead of EliteXC.

Elite XC on CBS

Wow, as a big time fan of MMA I am really sorry to all the first time people who had to view the abomination that was the Elite XC on CBS last night. Not only were there some questionable stoppages, but the whole thing was just trash. I'm only going to discuss the televised portion but the undercard was also either amazing or pathetic.

1. Brett Rogers v Jon Murphy - This one was setup to be one sided from the beginning, and thats how it turned out. I guess it was ok for the first time viewers to see a quick KO.

2. Joey Villasenor v Phil Baroni - The New York Bad Ass has officially washed out. He is no longer a decent striker nor can he wrestle at all. Its kind of sad because he did have potential while in the UFC and made a somewhat comeback in PRIDE but now he is done. Hang up the gloves Phil.

3. Gina Carano v Kaitlin Young - The first of 3 questionable stoppages. This one is somewhat understandable because Young was pretty beat up, but still having a mouse under your eye isn't enough to stop a fight. Carano showed off her impressive rack and also attempted a Gogoplata, which in and of itself is pretty impressive for someone who really just wants to bang and knock people out. Gina really needs to settle on fights at 145 or 150 though. Missing weight 3 consecutive fights is depressing.

4. Robbie Lawler v Scott Smith - The second of the 3 questionable stoppages. This was a pretty entertaining brawl with no ground game. Both guys continued to try to KO the other, even if the fans were booing for no reason. Unfortunately the fight was stopped after an unintentional eye gouge by Lawler. The doctor did not give Scott 5 minutes to recover and ended it prematurely and thus a No contest. Pretty terrible way to end an otherwise entertaining fight. Lawler had some seriously nasty liver shots too, Bas would have been proud.

5. Kevin 'Kimbo Slice' Ferguson v James Thompson - Bullshit, Bullshit, Bullshit! I'm not a fan of the 'Colossus' or 'Megapunk' or whatever he goes by nowadays, but Thompson had this clearly won in Round 2. After having Slice in the crucifix position and landing blows for over a minute straight this should have been called. I don't care if Miragliotta thought they weren't damaging enough, Slice was not defending them and this should have been over. In round 3 he called the fight after Slice hit the cauliflower on Thompson's ear and it burst, followed up with a few more strikes that stumbled Thompson. Earlier in the fight Slice wobbled Thompson as well but Thompson ended up in dominant position on the ground, which in turn was stood up for no reason. This whole fight just wreaked of corruption.

I knew the EliteXC banner wasn't classy, after seeing their events on Showtime and PPV with their dancers and all, but this was just pathetic and for the first timers out there I feel sorry. If you really want to see some good fights then watch the WEC tonight with Pulver v Faber. I think the worst thing that happened tonight was me realizing that Gary Shaw is actually worse than Dana White, and that makes me sick. Props to Sherdog for the photos.

Shogun in the UFC this summer?!

UFCjunkie.com is reporting that during a press call this week for the upcoming UFC 69 shitfest Dana White mentioned that the UFC is looking at none other than young PRIDE standout Mauricio “Shogun” Rua (16-2 MMA, 0-0 UFC) — 12-1 in PRIDE — of Brazil’s vaunted Chute Boxe Academy to fight the winner of Chuck Liddell and Quinton “Rampage” Jackson, who headline the UFC 71 event on May 26.

If this actually happened my head might explode. I love Rampage but when he wins he'll most likely get worked over by Shogun again. If Chuck got past 'Page I would pray that Shogun destroy him.

I know I'm late to break this story but I haven't been posting much lately and this really kills me inside. With the Fertita's buying PRIDE FC we'll no longer get to see Chute Boxe stomps or knees to a grounded opponent. Goodbye freakshow matches of Zulu vs Butterbean and hello Ultimate Fighter vs Ultimate Fighter.

I just hope they keep the Grand Prix around, that is seriously one of the best parts of PRIDE. I do like the introduction of the real weight classes but just as Nick Diaz found his perfect weight class of 160 he now has to choose between 155 or 170. Will the UFC now introduce Super Heavyweight? Because we all know Mark Hunt can't make 265 and you don't want to just throw someone like Hunt out of the mix.

So yeah....I haven't posted here in almost a month. Anyway, back to where I left off and some other news.

UFC 68 Picks:

1. Sylvia over Couture: Wrong

Thank god I got this wrong, because I put $20 on Couture and won back $56. Randy did a superb job and had a near perfect game plan for the big oaf. Up next, Randy gets kill by Cro Cop :(

2. Jason Macdonald over Rich Franklin: Wrong

2 for 2 so far! I wasn't really too surprised by Franklin beating the crap out of Mac but I was surprised by Mac not being able to do a single damn thing on his feet. He still shows a lot of promise as a grappler but he really needs to improve his standup. Lost $20 on this one.

3. Hughes over Lytle: Right, kind of.

I picked 2nd round TKO but it went to a unanimous decision. Hughes absolutely doesn't look ready to fight GSP again. He needs another can to help improve. I was sort of impressed by Lytle but he needs to be on Ultimate Fight Night a few more times before another PPV.

4. Babalu over Lambert: Dead fucking wrong

What the fuck Babalu? Lambert isn't even close to being in your league yet you couldn't finish his goofy ass when you had the chance in the first round and then gassed. Good showing by Lambert but this was a huge dissapointment.

My Picks for UFC 68

Alright, haven't done this before but here we go. I'll try to add anything that I may feel about the fight but if I don't know the fighters well enough I'll just give a quick pick.

Randy Couture vs Tim Sylvia - This one could be interesting or it could be a snore fest. Randy is taller than Jeff Monson, so when he takes Sylvia to the ground he won't have as much trouble hitting Tim. On the other hand Sylvia is freakishly tall and has good reach and a decent jab. I expect this to go the distance if Tim keeps his jab going. If Randy can manage to get this to the ground I would love to see him pound Tim's body a la Rampage vs Chuck back in 2003. My heart says Randy, but if Randy wins I don't want to see Cro Cop kill him. If Tim wins I do want to see Cro Cop kill him. Therefore Tim Sylvia by split decision. But I wouldn't mind putting down some coin on Randy since he is at +265 at betcris.com right now.
Rich Franklin vs Jason Macdonald - Another fight that could possibly go either way. Franklin is coming off a demoralizing fight against Anderson Silva in which his nose was destroyed and his belt taken away by the former Chute Boxe badass. Jason Macdonald has had two excellent submission victories, albeit over TUF veterans Ed Herman and Chris Leben. I'm a big fan of slick BJJ and Macdonald isn't too shabby at it, he definitely needs to improve his stand up, not to the point where he has to knock everyone out but to the point that he can use it to set up shots for takedowns or if it comes down to it he can exchange a few blows and maybe land a lucky punch. Franklin isn't a KO specialist by any means but he can dish out some serious damage if given the opportunity. I expect the first round to be explosive with Franklin throwing bombs, if Macdonald can withstand the initial onslaught then I think he will have a good chance. With that said I am saying Macdonald by 2nd round submission.
Matt Hughes vs Chris Lytle - Hughes is coming off a fight in which he got thoroughly dominated by GSP. Lytle is coming into this fight with 3 straight UFC losses, although the TUF4 finale against Serra I thought he did well enough to possibly win a decision but of course Serra won with his amazing LnP. Lytle seems like a good guy, but Hughes will win this fight. We shouldn't even be seeing these kind of fights for Hughes. A former champ vs the runner up from TUF? Give me a break UFC matchmakers. This fight is a joke. Hughes by 2nd round TKO.
Babalu vs Jason Lambert - This is yet another one sided matchup that I am not really looking forward to. Babalu shouldn't have a problem here just as long as he isn't an idiot again and pulls his Chuck gameplan. Let me go off on a tangent here for a second. Babalu should have defeated Chuck, plain and simple. He shouldn't have tried to exchange with a counter puncher. He should have been patient and eventually taken the fight to the ground so he could submit Chuck and break the hearts of millions of rednecks everywhere. Back to the present, Lambert is a decent striker but he is coming off a KO loss to Rashad Evans. Babalu by round 1 submission.

That is all the predictions of the fights that I really have anything to say about. As for my prediction for the other fights here they are:

Luigi Fioravanti vs John Fitch - Fitch by unanimous decision
Andrew Mcfredries vs Martin Kampmann - Mcfredries by submission in round 2
Matt Hamill vs Rex Holman - Hamill by split decision
Jason Dent vs Graison Tibau - Jason Dent round 1 submission
Jamie Varner vs Jason Gilliam - Varner via round 1 submission

We'll see how these picks pan out. This fight card doesn't really look all that appealing but its some MMA in HD I guess it can't be that bad can it?

Jesus Chuck. This is an interview from a morning show called "Good Morning Texas". They are talking about the new movie 300 that Chuck is helping promote but Chuck is just druuuuuuuunk. At the end of the interview the host says "Just hang in there today, ok Chuck?". I'm surprised they even let him on even though it was only for like 2 minutes.

Chuck, you are representing not only your self, but also mixed martial arts where ever you go. Like it or not you are one of the faces of the UFC and all of MMA. By showing up for something like this and being visibly inebriated you are not doing a whole lot for your sport, yourself, the movie you are promoting, or even the UFC. I'm not going to preach anymore here but someone should sit Chuck down and let him know that this kind of thing is bad in every way.

PRIDE 33 was unbelievable. HUGE upsets, a fighter holding belts in now two weight classes, and Henderson talking about fighting Fedor?!? If you didn't happen to catch it you really missed out on an amazing event. I'm still in shock as to the spectacle that I just witnessed.

Poor Wanderlei, he was once unbeatable now he has back-to-back KO's. I hope this gets a fire under his ass again and we get to see the 'Axe Murderer' again. Shogun looks unstoppable, but then again Dan Henderson just fucking knocked Wand out cold so who knows who would win that match up. Probably the biggest upset of all time, at least according to the betting odds, was Lil Nog getting knocked out cold against Sokoudjou.

Simply an amazing event, hopefully UFC 68 next Saturday won't disappoint. I know it can't be as good as this but I hope it comes close.

Fishman proposes Ultra-Mega-Super Fight

MMAweekly is reporting that Ed Fishman, President of PRIDE FC USA, has proposed the fight of fights to the UFC:

As President of Pride USA, Fishman made a public challenge to the UFC to pit each organization’s #1 and #2 fighters in each of four weight classes against each other in a “Winner Take All” format with both companies putting up $20 million. The first organization to win 5 of the 8 bouts would take home the $40 million.

If this were to ever come to fruition I would shit a brick. Wand vs Chuck, Shogun vs Rampage, Fedor vs Tim Sylvia, Cro Cop vs Big Nog, etc.

It's official now...Werdum vs Arlovski at UFC 70

My god, the UFC has announced its fight card for UFC 70 and headlining the event is Cro Cop vs Gonzaga. But if you look a little deeper you will see then next big fight as Werdum vs Arlovski. It is insane that the UFC is getting all these great fighters from PRIDE, although I read that Werdum's contract may have been completed with PRIDE having the UFC sign him is still a HUGE deal.

Also on that same fight card we have the laughable matchup of Lyoto Machida vs Forrest Griffin. I like Forrest, I really do, he's a great personality and some of his fights are fun to watch because it seems he just likes to go out there and brawl. But I thought the UFC wasn't going to be throwing their Ultimate Fighter winners to the wolves. Machida will wreck Griffin, and after getting lit up by Keith Jardine I think Griffin will have some serious work to do. I guess they can always throw him in against so no name guy from The Ultimate Fighter 25 or have another punch-fest against Stephan Bonnar.

Vera vs "Irish" Jake O'Brien; Cro Cop vs Gonzaga

Josh Gross at Sherdog mentioned that Brandon Vera's last fight under contract with the UFC will most likely be against "Irish" Jake O'Brien, the 'Lay and Pray' expert who "dominated" Heath Herring at Ultimate Fight Night on January 25th 2007.

What a slap in the face to Vera, the guy was being built up to be the next heavyweight champion and then a contract dispute happens, along with the signing of Mirko "Cro Cop" Filipovic, and now he gets to fight a chump as his UFC farewell present. Hopefully Vera signs with PRIDE.

In other news it looks like Cro Cop will be fighting Gabriel Gonzaga at UFC 70 in England on April 21. Gonzaga is decent but come on, he's no Minotauro. This fight will last about as long as the Sanchez bout.

Werdum to UFC?

I've been reading a lot lately that Arndei Arlovski's opponent for UFC 70 might be Fabricio Werdum. If it is then the heavyweight division in the UFC just got another hired gun away from PRIDE.

Werdum isn't a top 5 heavyweight but he is probably top 10 in the world and would be able to handle just about any heavyweight in the UFC right now outside of Cro Cop.

This is some good news, hopefully HBO will follow suit and hire a good team (ie not Lennox Lewis) for their UFC events they will be showing later this year.
